For the next few months we'll be running a competition every fortnight with a chance to win £500 of Outdoor Research vouchers. Entry is simple, all you need is a map and a willingness to discover the raw outdoors.
Inspired by geocaching, but without the need for expensive GPS equipment, the competition tests your outdoor and orienteering skills and your ability to read a map to pinpoint the location of a hidden message.
Every fortnight, we'll leave a secret word in a hidden location - our first location is the Mournes in Northern Ireland. The first person to discover the hidden word and post it to the Raw Outdoors Facebook or Twitter account wins a £500 voucher. Even if you don't make it to the hidden word first you still have a chance of entering and winning.
Here's How It Works
The first thing you need to do is become a fan of Raw Outdoors on Facebook or, if your prefer, follow us on Twitter. This is where we'll be announcing the competition details, in addition to other links to interesting news and occasional announcements on special offers.
On the Monday of each competition week, we'll announce the location of the week's Discover the Raw Outdoors location, for example, ‘The Mournes’. On the Wednesday, we'll release a photograph of the location, giving you a clear indication of where the word is hidden. On the Friday, we'll release a six figure grid reference.
So, should you wish to get a head start on Wednesday you can try your luck, get up the mountain and try and find the word using just the photograph as a clue. Should you wait for the grid reference you'll have a more accurate idea of location, but you'll be setting off 48 hours later.
How to Enter
Having used the clues or grid reference to locate the container and hidden message it is now your duty to let us know. The winner will be the first person to tell us the mystery word using Facebook, by leaving an update on Raw Outdoor's wall, or on Twitter, by updating their status to say, “I discovered the @RawOutdoors and now I have a chance of winning £500. The mystery word is: Compass. http://j.mp/RawOutdoors”. Compass should be replaced with the word you discover. On Facebook your status update should look like below.
And on Twitter the tweet should be formatted as follows.
Even if you're not the first to submit the secret word you still have a chance to win a £500 voucher. We'll enter everyone who has entered the competition, regardless of location, into one random draw at the end and give the lucky winner a £500 voucher.
